It is a message worth repeating: washing your hands is, by far, the best way to prevent the spread of germs and to protect your children from disease.

What is the best way to wash your hands?

Here is how to get rid of germs on top. Teach your children to wash their hands, or even better, wash your hands together with your children often to learn the importance of this habit.

Wet your hands with clean running water (warm or cold). Make sure the water is not too hot for the hands of the little ones.
Use soap and rub your hands vigorously for approximately 20 seconds. You do not need to use an antibacterial soap; Serve any type of soap.

Make sure that the area between the fingers, the backs of the hands and under the nails is well washed, where germs love to hide. And don’t forget the dolls!

Rinse your hands and dry them well with a clean, dry towel.

When should we wash our hands?

To end the spread of germs among family members, make hand washing a regular habit for everyone. It is especially important to practice it:

before eating and cooking
After going to the bathroom
after cleaning the house
after touching animals, including your family’s pets
after visiting or taking care of sick friends or family
after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing
after being outside (playing, gardening, taking the dog for a walk, etc.)
How does having clean hands help?
Washing your hands properly is the first line of defense against the spread of many diseases, from a common cold or cold to more serious diseases, such as meningitis, bronchiolitis, influenza, hepatitis A, and many types of diarrhea.

How do germs spread?

Germs can spread in many different ways, such as:

when touching dirty hands
when changing diapers
through contaminated water or food
through the droplets ejected in the air during coughing or sneezing
across contaminated surfaces
through contact with body fluids of a sick person

If children come into contact with germs, they can be infected only by touching their eyes, nose or mouth. And once infected, it is usually only a matter of time before the whole family becomes infected and ends up contracting the same disease.

Therefore, do not underestimate the importance of washing your hands! The little time your family will spend washing your hands will save you many visits to the doctor’s office.
