Wash your hands and prevent diseases, you need to know these during the school season.

Because of the large range of activities, children are often contaminated with various viral bacteria, and about 400,000 bacteria are attached to one hand. If it is not cleaned in time, it will easily lead to the breeding of infectious diseases.

Hand washing plays a very positive role in protecting students from the epidemic of infectious diseases.

1.The importance of proper hand washing

Hand washing is one of the easiest ways to cut off the source of infection and effectively prevent and control the spread of pathogens.
Studies have shown that correct and effective hand washing methods can remove 60% to 90% of microorganisms in the skin keratinized epithelium, thereby reducing the incidence of respiratory and digestive tract infections in students.
According to a study by the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention, after taking hand-washing intervention, the rate of fever absenteeism in first-year students decreased by 83.8%, the rate of absenteeism in headaches with other symptoms decreased by 26.0%, and the rate of absenteeism due to abdominal pain decreased by 100%.

2. Chinese students’ awareness of hand washing is still insufficient

At present, the proportion of Chinese and middle school students washing their hands before and after meals is still low, only 70% and 60% respectively, and kindergarten children only 30%. Each time you follow the “six-step washing method” and the use of hand-cleaning products is lower. Therefore, we must strengthen guidance so that Chinese primary and secondary school students can wash their hands properly.

Studies have shown that there are mainly reasons for the influence of primary and secondary school students washing their hands:

There are too many people in the sink (47.3%)
I don’t have a sink when I want to wash my hands (29.1%)
Taps are often bad or have no water (25.5%)
Water is too cold (accounting for 17.6%)
No one reminds me to wash, often forget (12.7%)
The sink is too far (9.9%)
The sink is too high to reach (6.3%)
Other (10.9%).

Properly wash your hands to guide

To guide students to wash their hands properly, we must do a good job in both hardware and software. On the one hand, schools should provide good hand washing conditions. On the other hand, we must strengthen the health education of students’ hand washing knowledge so that students can master the correct method of hand washing.

1. The school should be equipped with complete hand washing facilities:

The height of the sink should be appropriate, taking into account the height of the students at different stages of primary and secondary school.
Schools should be equipped with a sufficient number of faucets according to the number of students in a ratio of not less than 50:1.
It is best to install a push-type or inductive faucet in a conditional school to prevent contact with the faucet handle after washing the hand to affect the hand washing effect.
An antibacterial hand sanitizer should be placed next to each faucet and uninterrupted.
A disposable paper towel should be provided next to the sink to prevent students from wiping their hands directly on the clothes.

2. Incorporate handwashing education into the school curriculum and teach students six-step washing

First, rinse your hands with water and then use a hand soap or soap to make a foam. Then put your hands and fingers together, your thumbs apart, and your palms.

First cover the left hand on the back of the right hand, cross your fingers, and squat along your fingers. Then exchange the position with both hands and repeat.

The two palms are opposite, the fingers cross each other, and the upper and lower jaws are sewn.

The two hands are opposite, holding a virtual fist, the left palm is the back of the right hand, and the right palm is the back of the left finger.

Hold the right thumb slightly with your left hand and rotate the thumb 180 degrees; then exchange the position with both hands and repeat the step.

Finally, the five fingers of the left hand are gathered into a cone, and the fingertips are cleaned in the palm of the right hand; then the step is repeated.

4. Students need to pay attention to washing their hands

1. When will you wash?

Before eating or snacking
After going to the bathroom
After contact with blood, tears, and snot
After cleaning the classroom
After physical education or outdoor activities
Other hand is obviously dirty.
2. Hand washing duration

It is best to control the time of washing each time for more than 30 seconds. Above this time, the bottom line can achieve a good cleaning effect. Under normal circumstances, washing your hands for more than 30 seconds and washing your hands with running water (such as tap water) can reduce the number of pathogenic microorganisms on your hands by 80%. If you add soap or hand sanitizer, you can reduce pathogenic microorganisms by 95%.
