One of the lessons that Covid-19 leaves us is the need to minimize contact with surfaces.

Therefore, automatic dispensers for soap or hydroalcoholic solutions are a good option. In addition to reducing the risk of cross contamination, these devices optimize product consumption, since they offer the exact dose necessary for hand washing or disinfection. And this, in the long term, translates into great savings.

Doctorclean-professional-hygiene-anti-covid-19-automatic-dispensers-products
We have dispensers that are activated by sensors or infrared or dispenser columns for hydroalcoholic solutions that are activated by a pedal.

Soaps with antimicrobial capacity

To combat Covid-19 we are not very interested in whether a soap contains an aroma or if it is of one color or another; what we are looking for is for it to be effective in eliminating as many microorganisms as possible.

If we want to ensure this, we must consider that the soap has bactericidal, fungicidal and / or virucidal activity, an odorless and colorless soap, totally respectful of the skin and effective against fungi, viruses, bacteria and yeasts, according to official regulations.

2008 is the International Year of Sanitation, which was established by the UN General Assembly. It promotes the “Global Handwashing Day” initiative launched by the PPP Washing Public-Private Partnership (PPPHW), calling on countries around the world to start soaping activities on October 15 each year from 2008.

The event aims to develop and support a global and regional culture of washing hands with soap, paying attention to hand washing in various countries and increasing the promotion of the benefits of hand washing with soap or hand soap. As one of the sponsors of Global Handwashing Day, UNICEF actively promotes child-to-child hand washing campaigns through its offices around the world, calling on people to use action to wake everyone up to wash their hands properly, using soap or hand soap.

Washing hands, preventing disease health awareness; motivating people to improve their health behaviors, especially teaching children to develop good health attitudes and habits from childhood; advocating government and community to improve environmental sanitation, including hand washing facilities.

The meaning of washing your hands with soap or hand soap

Pneumonia and diarrhea are the leading causes of death among children under five. Every year, more than 3.5 million children worldwide are unable to celebrate their 5th birthday because of diarrhoea and pneumonia. Washing hands with soap can save millions of children. Hand washing can also prevent skin infections, eye infections, intestinal parasitic diseases, SARS and avian flu, and is beneficial to the health of cancer patients and people living with HIV.
Washing hands with soap is a life-saving intervention that is accessible to all countries and communities, both technically and economically. Advance this measure not only because it is good for health, but also because washing hands with soap makes people feel comfortable, can reflect a person’s social status and education, and washing hands can make people closer to each other.

Correct hand washing points

With regard to hand washing and advocating hand washing, the following 5 points need to be kept in mind.

1. Washing hands with water is not enough to wash bacteria
Washing hands with water only is a common practice in the world, and the efficiency is far lower than washing hands with soap or hand soap. Proper hand washing requires soap or hand soap and only a small amount of water. Use soap or hand soap to destroy the grease and dirt that carries most of the bacteria on your hands, and remove them by adding water. All soaps or hand sanitizers are equally effective at removing pathogenic bacteria as long as they are used correctly.

2. Washing your hands with soap or hand soap can help prevent a variety of germs that threaten children’s lives.
Washing hands with soap is one of the most effective ways to prevent diarrhoeal diseases and pneumonia, which are the leading causes of child death. Every year, more than 3.5 million children are unable to celebrate their 5th birthday because of diarrhoea and pneumonia. Hand washing can also prevent skin infections, eye infections, intestinal parasites, SARS and bird flu, and is beneficial to the health of people living with HIV and AIDS. Studies have shown that hand washing can effectively prevent the spread of disease, even in overcrowded, highly polluted slum environments.

3. The key moments of hand washing include: after going to the toilet, after cleaning the butt and cleaning the food
You must wash your hands after going to the toilet, cleaning your butt (or other human feces, including babies and children), and before touching any food. The hand is the main carrier of pathogenic bacteria. It is important to ensure that people can wash their hands in any way at these critical moments. Simple, inexpensive methods, such as tilting faucets (or drip taps), and even the poorest communities can be achieved economically and technically.

4. Proper hand washing is the cheapest and simplest health intervention
Hand washing is the cheapest compared to other commonly used long-term health interventions. The health benefit of investing $3.35 for hand washing is equivalent to investing $11 for toilet construction, which is equivalent to investing $200 for household water supply, equivalent to investing thousands of dollars for immunization programs. Investing in soaping hands can also increase the health benefits of investing in water and sanitation, and reduce health risks when families do not have basic sanitation and water services. Cost is not a barrier to hand washing. Almost all households in the world have soap, but they are usually used only for laundry, washing dishes, bathing, not washing their hands.

5. Children will be the messengers of change
When sharing good health practices, as a part of society, children are often the most powerful and enthusiastic group, and are willing to accept new things. After learning in the school’s “handwashing class”, they return to their homes and communities to become behavioral changes. Promoter. The active participation of children (ideally, where children are located at the intersection of families, schools, and communities), when combined with culturally-friendly (sensitive) community-based interventions, ensures sustainable behavioral change. The goal of Global Handwashing Day is to motivate children to receive and share correct handwashing practices, placing them as “handwashing ambassadors” at the heart of national and local activities.

The correct method of hand washing requires everyone to master and practice it. Only every family, every school, every community, the whole country and the whole world can adhere to the correct method of hand washing and develop good hand washing habits. Its social health benefits can be reflected, and “Global Handwashing Day” will be “not just a commemorative day!”

October 15th is World Handwashing Day. Some people will think, “Where there is so much attention to washing your hands, just put it under the faucet.” Although we wash our hands every day, most people don’t know how to wash their hands properly and scientifically, even “washing more dirty” . Are you really doing the right thing to wash your hands? Come and find out the right way to wash your hands.

Studies have shown that proper hand washing can effectively prevent the spread of disease. Autumn and winter seasons are high seasons for a variety of infectious diseases, and the prevention of these diseases can be effectively prevented by strengthening hand hygiene.

What should I pay attention to when washing my hands properly?

Always use running water when washing your hands. Do not use basin water. It takes at least 15 seconds to wash your hands. You can’t just wash your hands with water. Use soap or hand soap to remove pathogens. In addition, the soap should be kept dry during use, and the soap box should be cleaned in time. If the bottom of the box can not be kept dry, bacteria will also grow in a humid environment. In addition, it should be noted that many people share the soap and are not hygienic.

Misunderstanding of hand washing

Myth 1: All hand sanitizers can be sterilized

Hand sanitizers are mainly classified into common type and antibacterial type, so not all hand sanitizers have a bactericidal effect. In the antibacterial and germicidal hand sanitizer, the antibacterial type has a bactericidal effect, but the sterilization rate is relatively low, generally more than 90% can be labeled as an antibacterial effect, and the bactericidal hand sanitizer requires a sterilization rate of 99.99% for the target bacteria.

Myth 2: Wash hands with disposable hand sanitizer

With a disposable hand sanitizer, there will always be substances left on the surface of the hand, so use them as little as possible. It is best to wash your hands with running water and soap. In addition, many people use the “saving” wipes instead of washing their hands before eating. Experts pointed out that wet wipes can not replace hand washing, how to wipe the wet wipes repeatedly, and can not remove bacteria on the surface of the skin.

Myth 3: The more you use the hand sanitizer, the better.

Many people are afraid that they can’t be cleaned, so press a lot of hand sanitizer on the hand and wash it hard. In fact, such deep cleaning can damage the skin, so that the skin not only can not retain moisture, but also easier to invade the bacteria.

Myth 4: Wash your hands with a wash basin

Many people think that washing hands with a wash basin can also wash your hands. In fact, after repeated washing, the water in the wash basin is dirty. Wash your hands with dirty water, your hands are still dirty, and you won’t be able to wash your hands. Even many people use a basin of water to wash their hands, and the degree of contamination is even more serious.

Myth 5: Dry your hands with a towel after washing your hands

Dry hands or dry with a disposable paper towel after washing hands. It is best not to use a towel, because the towel is easy to hide the germs, it is easy to make the washed hands contaminated with germs, not to use public towels.

Misunderstanding 6: Do not wash your clothes after drying your clothes

Dirty clothes and bacteria in the washing machine will be contaminated on the clothes during the washing process. During the process of drying clothes, the hands are likely to be stained with these bacteria. After the clothes are exposed to ultraviolet rays, they can eventually achieve the purpose of disinfection, but the hands are often ignored.

Seven steps to properly wash your hands

The first step: wash your palms. Moisten your hands with water, apply hand sanitizer (or soap), palms, and close your fingers.

Step 2: Wash the back side finger joints. The palms of the hands are rubbed against each other along the back of the fingers, and the hands are exchanged.

The third step: wash the palm side finger joints. The palms are opposite, and the hands cross each other along the fingers.

Step 4: Wash your fingers. Bend each finger joint, and put the back of the finger in the palm of the other hand and rotate it with both hands.

Step 5: Wash your thumb. With one hand holding the other hand, the thumb is rotated and the hands are exchanged.

Step 6: Wash your fingertips. Bend each finger joint, close the fingertips and rotate it in the palm of the other hand, and exchange the hands.

Step 7: Wash your wrists and arms, rub wrist, arm, hands exchange.

Under what circumstances should I wash my hands?

1. Prepare food and contact with raw meat;

2, before meals (feeding), before taking medicine;

3. After contacting the coins;

4. After contacting others, especially after going to the hospital or after contacting the patient (before);

5. After the cleaning work is completed, the garbage is disposed of;

6, outdoor sports, homework, after shopping;

7. After the outdoor play is contaminated with dirty things;

8. After contact with blood, tears, sputum, sputum and saliva;

9. Before holding a child, especially those who have been exposed to infectious materials, they must be disinfected and washed repeatedly;

10. After touching the pet.

While each manufacturer typically will give their individual ‘take’ on a hand hygiene dispenser at the end of the day they can be broken down into three main categories: bulk fill, automatic, and manual. There are clear pros and cons to each, at the end of the day it is up to the customer to select the dispenser type best suited for their budget and establishment.

The first, and most widely debated, dispenser type is the bulk fill dispenser. Many people select bulk fill as their hand hygiene dispensing method for budgetary reasons; product is cheap and with attentive janitors ‘topping off’ dispensers soap is readily at all times. Win/win, right? In actuality the apparent ‘pros’ of bulk fill soap and dispensing are quickly dwarfed by the cons.

The first con, and most major drawback of bulk fill, is the potential risks for contamination and bacterial growth. Bulk fill dispenser manufacturers, along with the CDC, all suggest that in order to keep a bulk soap dispenser as hygienic as possible a user should NOT top off the soap dispenser as needed, instead each fill should be allowed to empty completely followed by a thorough cleaning of the dispenser prior to a refill. In reality, how often is this procedure actually followed? It’s time consuming, daunting and quickly negates any budget savings by purchasing a bulk product with the increase labor needs to make soap hygienic when used. When dispensers are refilled without a complete cleaning, not only can the dispenser stop working effectively due to clogs but bacteria in the air (which bulk fill products are constantly exposed to) can thrive in the moist environment of the dispenser and contaminate the soap itself. If a dispenser becomes contaminated hand washing with product from those dispensers becomes ineffective and can actually contribute to the spread of germs. You might say, hey, why bother? Soap is soap, it’s self-cleaning. Well… Not exactly. Soap essentially lubricates the hands capturing the germs so they are washed down the drain. If the germs are in the soap it instantly becomes less effective, if a sanitizer is being bulk dispensed it can actually deposit germs on the hands completely defeating the purpose. The risk is the germs that develop after surviving hand sanitizer exposure are exactly the ones you do not want.

In an effort to pull away from bulk filled hygiene products manufacturers have switched their focused dispensing systems that utilize sealed-soap (or sanitizer)-dispensing systems therefore reducing, if not eliminating, airborne germ exposure. While the look of the dispensers can vary wildly manufacturer to manufacturer ultimately it boils down to two options: automatic or manual.

The case for automatic dispensers seems to make itself; since there’s no contact needed to trigger a ‘push’ the opportunity for germs to transfer from the touch point to a person’s hands is taken away. In reality, since a person is cleansing their hands after touching a dispenser the automatic function isn’t necessary. Automatic dispensers also require batteries to keep functioning which can add to the cost quickly and if the batteries aren’t changed there is no manual way to get the soap to dispense. And as with any battery and sensor opperated device automatic dispenser can sometimes delay the trigger push or even trigger on their own dispensing product onto sink counters or floors causing damage. It is not uncommon to see floor wax stripped by leaking hand sanitizer dispensers.

At the end of the day the most hygienic, cost effective, and reliable dispenser option is a manual dispenser that utilizes enclosed products.

“So that your hands are really clean, always use soapy water,” that was the motto chosen by those responsible for a public-private partnership program in Ghana that was developed during the years 2004-2006. So far, in Ghana, soap was used frequently, but especially for washing dishes, washing clothes and bathing Only 3% of the population washed their hands with soap, and 32% washed their hands only with water .

In Ghana, diarrhea causes 25% of the deaths of children under five and nine million episodes of illnesses could be avoided by washing hands with soap.

The campaign had a triple level of action: dissemination in the mass media, demonstration activities that showed the difference between clean and dirty hands and a territorial level program that included schools, health centers and communities.

The results of the campaign were really successful, six months after the start, handwashing with soap among mothers was above 80%. This handwashing program in Ghana made pollution visible to the Ghanaian public for the first time and allowed the importance of hygiene to be transmitted effectively and in response to the new communication and marketing modes prevailing.

It was important to demonstrate that public-private collaboration in these important aspects that affect health can be effective if one works with transparency and with mutual respect.

A gesture as simple as washing your hands with soap and water can be key to the survival of millions of people, especially the little ones. Children are especially vulnerable to the effects of diarrhea and respiratory infections, diseases that can be easily and cheaply prevented with a little soap and water. This day wants to serve as a reminder of the importance of this practice.

World Handwashing Day is a call to raise public awareness that some soap and water can save many lives. This day is celebrated for the first time this October 15 in 70 countries of the five containers. It is the first time in history that a worldwide campaign asks millions of people to wash their hands with soap and water.

“The main message we want to convey is the importance of hand washing, but not just any quick rinse: it is important to wash your hands correctly with soap and water at key times of the day. These key moments are: before cooking or preparing food, before eating and after using the bathroom or cleaning a baby, “says Therese Dooley of the UNICEF Sanitation and Hygiene Program.

Handwashing with soap and water is one of the most effective and cheap ways to prevent diarrheal diseases and acute respiratory infections. These diseases cause the death of 3.5 million children every year and affect the health of millions more, both in developing and industrialized countries. Access to soap is not always easy in many places in the world. In countries like Ethiopia, many people use ashes or sand for personal hygiene, because they can’t get soap.

UNICEF supports several campaigns to promote proper hand washing, within its Water, Sanitation and hygiene programs worldwide. The United Nations General Assembly declared 2008 as the International Year of Sanitation. World Handwashing Day reinforces this movement in favor of an improvement in sanitation and hygiene practices, especially for children, who are agents of change.

Handwashing with soap and water is one of the most effective and economical ways to prevent gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases. On October 15, World Handwashing Day was celebrated, which aims to make this hygienic practice a habit in schools, homes and communities around the world.

World Handwashing Day is promoted internationally by a coalition of public, private and non-profit organizations, the Global Handwashing Day Public Private Partnership, in order to sensitize and disseminate a key hygienic practice in promoting health and in the prevention of diarrheal diseases and pneumonia, which together are responsible for the majority of infant deaths worldwide.

Rooting the practice of handwashing with soap before eating and preparing food and after using the toilet could save more lives than any vaccine or medical intervention, reduce deaths from diarrhea by almost half and avoid a quarter of deaths from infections Acute respiratory worldwide.

In Spain, World Handwashing Day is organized by an open group of entities, non-profit organizations and companies, which follow the example of the international initiative.

The challenge is that handwashing with soap becomes an automatic and frequent behavior in schools, homes, workplaces and other living spaces, since, also in developed countries with adequate sanitary structures, it is a basic habit to prevent diseases.

As in other countries around us, handwashing with soap and water can be considered a practice of such elementary hygiene that is taken for granted. However, it is still a practice that is not always carried out in the so-called critical moments or the impact that it has, for example, to avoid the spread of acute respiratory infections (flu, bronchiolitis, etc.) of a seasonal nature is unknown or minimized. Like other diseases.

Critical moments when handwashing with soap is necessary would include among others: after going to the toilet, before eating, before handling food, after using public transportation or being in contact with a sick person.

Performance in schools

Any person can promote in their family environment, at work or socially hand washing, but it is in schools where they can influence more, helping children to grow up already with the acquired habit. To facilitate this, the campaign’s promoter group offers information on its website about how, when and why it is necessary to wash your hands with soap in various environments, including schools and nurseries.

Before eating all children should go to wash their hands. Accompanying them when they are very young when washing hands is important and a great time for them to learn to wash their hands with soap and water properly. Similarly, handwashing with soap and water is essential after going to the toilet.

To help promote hand washing in the centers, the organization warns about the following circumstances:

– Dirty bathrooms and sinks in poor conditions do not invite their use, so the first thing is that everyone in the center collaborates to the best of their ability to be clean and pleasant.

– The center must monitor these conditions so that they are correct: existence of soap, washbasins that are easy to access to the smallest (at their height), air drying systems or paper that are more recommended in collective places where towels are less hygienic of cloth, etc.

– Maintenance is important, but it is not only a matter of the center and, in that sense, children should be encouraged to collaborate and leave the bathroom in good condition, just as they would like to find it.

– It is proposed to do clean-handed contests between boys and girls when they are young, teaching them to wash their hands as if it were a game and to leave the bathroom clean and in order also as a challenge between different classes and groups.
– Children can be explained why our hands are son the transport ’through which germs, viruses and bacteria that transmit diseases can travel and how hand washing with soap and water prevents it.

– In the winter season when the flu and bronchiolitis are more frequent, we must promote a more common hand washing and teach children to do it and remind them when they put their hands to their mouths when they sneeze, cough, etc.

– It is also important to teach them how in other countries access to running water and soap makes hand washing difficult and to make them aware of the importance of this and sensitive.

Hand hygiene is the most important and effective procedure for the prevention and control of infections.

In caring for sick people, the hands constitute a vehicle for the transmission of pathogens, either through direct contact from person to person, or indirectly through previously contaminated objects, which can subsequently contaminate the patient.

Hand hygiene is a very simple action, and should be practiced by every person who takes care of a patient, whether they are healthcare personnel or caregivers.

Despite being the most important measure to reduce the incidence of infection and the spread of microorganisms, compliance with hand hygiene standards is very low.

THE SKIN:
It is a structure that constitutes a protective barrier between the external environment and the organism preventing the passage of germs into it.

The normal flora of the skin can be:

Transient flora: Consists of microorganisms that colonize the superficial layer of skin to which they adhere after contact with contaminated patients or surfaces.
Resident flora: Made up of microorganisms that survive and multiply in the deeper layers of the skin, and although they are less related to infections, they are more difficult to eliminate with a hand wash.
Water and soap, in general, are sufficient to eliminate transient flora. However, to eliminate the permanent flora, necessary in the case of wound management and in the care of patients in certain cases, the use of antiseptics in handwashing is necessary.

HAND WASHING OBJECTIVE:
Reduce hand contamination and prevent the spread of pathogenic germs to uncontaminated areas.
Prevent the transmission of infections in the health environment.
Protect the patient, healthcare staff and caregivers.

TO WHOM IT IS ADDRESSED:
Health personnel who maintain direct and indirect contact with the patient.
Caregivers who maintain direct and indirect contact with the patient.
Anyone who works in a health center.

WHEN TO WASH YOUR HANDS:
General indications for hand washing and antisepsis:

Before:

Start the workday at the health center.
Touch any patient (especially in direct contact with patients susceptible to infections) to protect them from the pathogenic germs that we carry in our hands.

Eat:

Perform invasive procedures or any task that requires asepsis, even if gloves are used, such as placing permanent urinary catheters, peripheral catheters or other devices.
The preparation of food or medication.

After:

Exposure of the hands to blood or other body fluids, to mucous membranes, to non-intact skin and wound dressings, or after touching potentially contaminated objects or objects located in the immediate vicinity of the patient, when touching material contaminated with secretions, even if the hands Be apparently clean.
Having contact with the intact skin of a patient (eg when taking the pulse or blood pressure, lifting the patient, etc.) or their surroundings.

Come back from the dining room.

Use the services

End the workday in a health center.

Before and after:

Maintain contact with wounds of all kinds.
Manipulate drainage systems.
Wear gloves.
Between:

Contacts maintained with different patients (especially in high-risk units).
Handling of a contaminated area to a clean area of the patient’s body during care.
Hand washing is recommended in all cases in which doubts arise between the need or not to perform it.

HANDWASH PRODUCTS:
Selection of hand washing products:

The choice of a washing agent will depend on the degree of contamination, the need to reduce the resident and transient flora to a greater or lesser extent, and the susceptibility of each patient.

Hand hygiene products must be effective and have a low potential for irritation, especially when used frequently. The sensation, smell and skin tolerance of the products must be assessed in the choice.

Containers containing washing agents should not be filled when they are half empty, since the product can be contaminated with bacteria. It is preferable that they have a dosing mechanism, this should always be kept clean.

In the case of using antiseptic products, it must be known that there may be incompatibility between them, or with the soaps and with the type of gloves to be used, so the correct choice must be checked.

Among the most used products we have:

Soap:
It should preferably be liquid and with neutral pH, in a single-use container and with a dispensing valve. Basically it is a cleaning agent. Although its antimicrobial activity is minimal, its primary mechanism of action.
