The 2009 Global Handwashing Day was initiated by the Public-Private Partnership to Promote Handwashing with Soap, calling on countries around the world to carry out handwashing with soap every October 15th. Initiated by the World Health Organization in 2009 and enacted on October 13 of that year, the purpose is to call on the world to strengthen hygiene awareness through the simple but important action of “washing hands” in order to prevent infection of infectious diseases.
